We are excited to launch our Home Schoolers Sewing Class, specially designed for children who are educated at home. The first (trial) class aims to introduce young learners to the basics of sewing in a fun and engaging way and starts with getting their learners and sew a book cover.  We will then move onto a pocket cushion cover and as confidence and skills build we will be guided by the students as to the projects they would like to work on.

Class Activities:

  1. Sewing Driving Licences:
    • Purpose: This activity is designed to develop hand-eye coordination and foot control, essential skills for effective sewing.
    • Description: Children will practice guiding fabric through the sewing machine, learning to control speed and direction, much like earning a ‘driving licence’ for sewing.
  2. First Project – Book Cover:
    • Project Goal: By the end of the class, each child will have created their own personalised book cover.
    • Skills Learned: Measuring, cutting, and sewing fabric, as well as basic machine operations and finishing techniques.
  3. Second Project – Pocket Cushion Cover:
    • Project Goal: By the end of the class, each child will have created their own personalised monogram pocket cushion cover.
    • Skills Learned: Measuring, cutting, and sewing fabric, applique as well as basic machine operations and finishing techniques.

Students are encouraged to take their time and work at their own speed, as such some projects may take more than one class to complete.
