With a handy pocket to store your favourite book, pens, or even PJs, it’s the perfect travel companion or bedtime buddy. Plus, you get to add a personal touch with your own monogram.

Fun fact: Monograms have been used for centuries, dating back to ancient Greece, where they were often used as signatures by artisans and craftsmen to mark their work!

Skill Level: 2 (beginner)

What you need

  • Front (under pocket) – 40cm x 40cm
  • Lower Back – 36cm x 40cm
  • Upper Back – 20cm x 40cm
  • Pocket – 30cm x 40cm
  • Letter – No bigger than 17cm tall

Construction

  1. Hem the pocket by double turning the hem 2cm and edge stitching
  2. Baste/glue the letter in place on the pocket. Keep in mind the seam allowance on the sides and bottom edge.
  3. 3-6mm Top stitch around the letter
  4. Add any other design elements such as the we did on the ‘S’ (image above)
  5. Hem the back panels
    • Top panel: 2cm double turn & edge stitch
    • Bottom panel: 1cm double turn & edge stitch

Finish off

  1. Place the pocket on the front (as it would be once finished)
  2. Place the Upper back on top (right sides together)
  3. Place the Lower Back on top (right sides together)
  4. Sew around the edge with a 10mm seam allowance. Clip the corners
  5. Turn right side out & give it a press (ensuring you roll the seams as you go)
